Guidelines

Create decision checks, assign them to projects, and review findings.

UpdatedMay 7, 2026

On this page

Guidelines are reusable checks for project decisions. Use them when a project needs the same review standard every time: security, compliance, finance, launch readiness, or your own custom rules.

What changed

Older docs called this area Policies. In the current product, the area is Guidelines.

Guidelines do not replace decisions. Decisions record what changed and why. Guidelines check whether project decisions meet the standards your team assigned to that project.

What a guideline contains

PartPurpose
NameThe guideline set people see in the library
CategorySecurity, compliance, financial, operations, or custom
ChecksThe individual rules evaluated against project decisions
SeverityWatch, At risk, or Blocked
AssignmentsProjects where the guideline is active
FindingsOpen issues created when a check needs attention

Create a guideline

  1. Open Guidelines.
  2. Click New guideline.
  3. Start from a template or create a custom set.
  4. Add at least one check.
  5. Save.

Assign guidelines to a project

  1. Open the project.
  2. Go to the Guidelines tab.
  3. Assign an existing guideline or create one from the project.
  4. Keep the assignment active, pause it to skip future check runs, or archive it.

Review findings

Guideline checks can create risk findings. Open the guideline detail page or the project graph to see:

  • which projects use the guideline
  • which checks ran most recently
  • whether open findings exist
  • which risk records need review
